The adolescent with obesity will present a<strong>\u00a0risk of cardiovascular mortality between 3 to 5 times greater than 50 years<\/strong>;\u00a0<strong>Type 2 diabetes in adolescence consumes beta cells in the pancreas<\/strong>\u00a0(those that produce insulin)<strong>\u00a04 times faster than in adults<\/strong>, and\u00a0<strong>causes<\/strong>\u00a0kidney, retinal and nerve\u00a0<strong>damage much earlier than in adults<\/strong>\u00a0( 5 years after its start); and one\u00a0<strong>third of obese adolescents have Sleep Apnea Syndrome<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 OSAS; among other more alarming data, such as\u00a0<strong>increased risk of cancer<\/strong>\u00a0(colon, breast, ovary, etc.)<strong>\u00a0in young adulthood<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>For these very worrying reasons,\u00a0<strong>BARIATRIC AND METABOLIC SURGERY<\/strong>\u00a0is contemplated in adolescents, to\u00a0<strong>provide adequate health and prevent all these comorbidities in youth and adulthood<\/strong>, in addition to\u00a0<strong>improving the quality of life<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\t\t<div class='et-tabs-container et_sliderfx_fade et_sliderauto_false et_sliderauto_speed_5000 et_slidertype_top_tabs'>\n\t\t\t\t<ul class='et-tabs-control'>\n\t\t\t<li><a href='#'>\n\t\t\tDefinition\n\t\t<\/a><\/li> \n\t\t<li><a href='#'>\n\t\t\tIndications\n\t\t<\/a><\/li> \n\t\t<li><a href='#'>\n\t\t\tMultidisciplinary team\n\t\t<\/a><\/li> \n\t\t<li><a href='#'>\n\t\t\tContraindications\n\t\t<\/a><\/li> \n\t\t<li><a href='#'>\n\t\t\tBenefits\n\t\t<\/a><\/li> \n\t\t<li><a href='#'>\n\t\t\tRecommended techniques\n\t\t<\/a><\/li>\n\t\t<\/ul> \n\t\t<div class='et-tabs-content'>\n\t\t\t<div class='et-tabs-content-main-wrap'>\n\t\t\t\t<div class='et-tabs-content-wrapper'>\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class='et_slidecontent'>\n\t\t\t<p><strong>OBESITY in the ADOLESCENT<\/strong>\u00a0is defined as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>OVERWEIGHT:&gt; 85th BMI percentile for sex and age<\/li>\n<li>OBESITY GRADE I:&gt; 95th BMI percentile for sex and age<\/li>\n<li>OBESITY GRADE II:&gt; 120% of the 95th percentile BMI for sex and age. BMI&gt; 35<\/li>\n<li>GRADE III OR MORBID OBESITY:&gt; 140% of the 95th BMI percentile for sex and age.
